Description
The First United Methodist Church of Lompoc will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the completion of its current Sanctuary and Education/Office Building on Sunday, May 29, at 10:30 AM.
The community is invited to a special service of music and worship that will commemorate the church's moving from its small, historic location on South H St. to its soaring, beautiful sanctuary that stands on North F and North Streets.

With continuous worship services held since 1874, soon after our city was laid out, it is one of the oldest United Methodist churches in California. With the opening of Vandenberg Air Force Base,
church attendance grew rapidly, and it was soon necessary to make the move to a new location and much-larger Sanctuary, and the first worship service was held there on the Sunday of Memorial Weekend, 1966.
Now, not only is this Sanctuary a place of worship, but it has also become the cultural home of musical performances. With the addition of the Veritas organ and the restored 1912 Chickering concert grand piano, many musical groups including the Lompoc Valley Master Chorale, the Lompoc Pops Orchestra, and the Lompoc Concert Association hold their performances in this acoustically-magnificent structure, as well as a series of organ concerts and many recitals of students of our local music studios.
The church is also a place of mission-supporting mission globally through its United Methodist connection, as well as impacting local community needs though Sharing Tree donations, “Feed the Hungry”, monthly Food Distributions and much more. It seeks to live out its mission of “helping people discover their life in Christ.”
All are invited to join its current and former members, several City officials, and former Pastors in attending both this celebratory service and the lunch reception that will follow.
The First United Methodist Church of Lompoc is located at 925 North F Street in Lompoc.
